Published Wednesday 20 May 2026. Norbury households trying to check bin collections online may need to try again later if Croydon Council’s waste service pages are not working as expected.
When checked by the Gazette today, Croydon Council’s check your bin collection days page was displaying a waste services alert saying the council was experiencing issues with its online waste service, that the issues were being investigated, and that residents who experience problems should try again later.
The council page remains the official route for checking rubbish and recycling collection days, viewing or downloading a collection calendar, and reporting a missed bin.
What residents can do
- If the online checker does not load: try again later, as the council’s alert advises.
- If your collection is due: the council says bins should be left out by 6am on collection day.
- Where to leave bins: Croydon says bins should be placed where they can be seen easily, at the edge of the property where it meets the public highway.
- Avoid non-collection: the council says it will not collect a bin if it is in the wrong place, contains waste that should be in a different bin, or is over-filled so the lid does not close.
If a bin is missed
Croydon Council says missed bins, or other collection problems, should be reported online within 2 working days, starting at 10pm on the day of the collection. The council says residents do not need to sign up for an account to make the report.
Because the online waste service alert relates to the council’s own digital service, residents should check the council page directly for the latest position before assuming that a collection day has changed.
Recycling centre reminder
For waste that should not go in household bins, Croydon Council’s reuse and recycling centres page lists accepted materials and site rules. The council says its sites accept a range of recycling, as well as household waste in black bags, garden waste, small electrical goods and small bulky waste items. It also lists items not accepted, including asbestos, chemicals, gas bottles, paints or varnishes and tyres.
