Norbury residents planning late-evening journeys across South London next week should check before travelling, as Transport for London lists planned Windrush line closures after 11.30pm on several evenings.

TfL’s status information says there will be no Windrush line service between New Cross Gate and West Croydon or Crystal Palace after 11.30pm each evening from Monday 3 August to Thursday 6 August 2026.

The line does not serve Norbury directly, but the closure may matter for residents returning through nearby South London interchange points, including West Croydon, Crystal Palace and Streatham Hill.

What TfL lists

According to TfL, rail replacement buses are planned for affected late-night journeys. One replacement bus for Crystal Palace is listed as departing London Bridge at 11.58pm, calling at New Cross Gate, Brockley, Honor Oak Park, Forest Hill, Sydenham, Crystal Palace, Gipsy Hill, West Norwood, Tulse Hill and Streatham Hill.

TfL also lists a bus for East Croydon departing London Bridge at 12.35am, calling at New Cross Gate, Brockley, Honor Oak Park, Forest Hill, Sydenham, Norwood Junction and East Croydon.

A return bus from Crystal Palace is listed at 11.59pm, calling at all stations to London Bridge via New Cross Gate.

Last through trains listed

  • New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace: 11.24pm
  • Crystal Palace to New Cross Gate / Highbury & Islington: 11.32pm
  • New Cross Gate to West Croydon: 11.30pm

Practical advice

Anyone travelling late should check their journey close to departure time, especially if connecting with buses, trams, National Rail or local night routes. TfL says passengers may also use local buses or trams by any reasonable route.
