Wednesday 13 May 2026 — Norbury Bowling Club’s spring open weekend has given the Turle Road club a local good-news start to the season, with new visitors trying bowls and club members helping with demonstrations and coaching.

In an update published by the club on HugoFox, Norbury Bowling Club said its open weekend followed local publicity through flyers, noticeboards, Facebook and messages to nearby schools, councillors and businesses. The club said guests arrived after a quiet start, with members then switching from practice to welcoming and coaching visitors.

One of the more unusual moments came when a local walking group diverted from its route and arrived at the club grounds. The club said around 15 walkers came in, and it hopes to welcome them back on future walks.

The club also said local councillor Appu Srinivasan visited on the Sunday, tried bowls and offered to help where possible.

Why it matters locally

Small sports clubs can be easy to miss, even when they sit close to familiar local routes. Norbury Bowling Club’s update said it was struck by how few people had heard of the club before, despite the club’s long-standing presence off Turle Road.

For residents, the open weekend is a reminder that local clubs can offer low-key social activity as well as sport. The club’s own account described visitors learning about bowls, refreshments, social events and hopes for the season ahead.

Where the club is

Norbury Bowling Club is listed at Turle Road, Norbury, SW16 5QN. Residents interested in the club can check its Norbury Bowling Club website for membership and contact information.
