Friends of Norbury Park is among the Croydon parks groups awarded funding through the council’s Community Greenspace Grant programme.
Croydon Council announced that winning “Friends of” parks groups will share a total pot of £25,000 for community-led projects intended to improve biodiversity, climate resilience and access to local green spaces.
What it means for Norbury Park
The council’s announcement does not list an individual award amount for Norbury Park. It does, however, identify Friends of Norbury Park as one of the successful groups and says the funding will support nature-focused improvements across the borough.
In the council announcement, Jenni Rodgers of Friends of Norbury Park said the grant would help the park’s woodland areas and improve the experience for people using the park. She said the spaces had needed “care and attention” and thanked Croydon on behalf of the group and the local North Croydon community.
For Norbury residents, the award is a useful sign that local volunteer park groups remain an important route for small-scale environmental improvements, from habitat work to better community use of green space.
How the grant scheme works
Croydon Council says the Community Greenspace Grant is funded and awarded by the council to Friends of Parks groups that work with it to improve parks and open spaces.
The council says it received a significant number of applications, with priority given to groups that showed clear outcomes and meaningful engagement with their wider community. Groups that applied but were not successful are due to receive £250 in the summer from the Pride in Place programme towards their chosen project.
Why this matters locally
Norbury Park is one of the area’s main public green spaces, used by residents for walking, sport, family time and everyday routes between surrounding streets. Even modest improvements can matter if they support biodiversity, make woodland areas easier to enjoy, or help volunteer groups keep momentum.
Residents who want to follow the work can look out for updates from Friends of Norbury Park and Croydon Council’s parks and greenspace channels.
