Norbury residents who rely on weekly household routines can use Croydon Council’s official online services to check bin collection days, download a collection calendar and report missed rubbish or recycling collections.
The guidance is useful for streets across Norbury SW16 because collection rounds, bank-holiday changes and missed-collection rules can vary by address. Residents should use the official postcode and address checker rather than relying on a neighbour’s collection day.
Check your collection day first
Croydon Council’s check your bin collection days page links to the council’s address lookup service. The page says residents can check which days their rubbish collections take place and view or download their latest collection calendar.
The council says bins should be left out by 6am on collection day, where they can be seen easily, at the edge of the property where it meets the public highway.
If a bin is missed
Croydon Council says a missed collection, or another collection problem, should be reported within 2 working days, starting at 10pm on the day of collection. The same online address service is used to report a missed bin.
The council’s rubbish collection problem page says that if a whole street is not collected, residents should leave waste and recycling out and the crews will try to get to it as soon as possible. In that situation, the council says residents should not report a missed collection.
If other properties on the street have been collected, residents can report a missed bin online. The council says residents do not need to sign up for an account to do this.
Why a bin may not be collected
Croydon Council says it may not return if the missed collection was not the council’s mistake. Examples listed on the council website include bins not being left at the edge of the property, bins containing waste that should be in a different bin, or bins being over-filled so the lid does not close.
For general rubbish bins, the council’s page also warns against putting in items such as food waste, textiles, batteries, electrical waste, garden waste and DIY waste. If a bin is not collected for one of these reasons, the council says it may put a tag on the bin to explain why.
Bulky items are separate
Large household items should not simply be left beside ordinary bins. Croydon Council’s bulky waste collection page says the service is for large unwanted items that cannot be reused, recycled or taken to a reuse and recycling centre.
As checked on Tuesday 30 June 2026, Croydon Council’s bulky waste page listed charges of £40.40 for 1 to 3 items and £65.30 for 4 to 6 items. Residents should check the live council page before booking, as fees and rules can change.
The council also says items containing persistent organic pollutants, such as sofas, armchairs, beanbags and cushions, must be collected separately from other waste. If a booking includes a mixture of items, the council says some items may be collected in two separate visits.
